Coreia is an editorial project of artistic, critical and discursive nature about arts in general, with special affiliation to dance. Published twice a year in Portuguese language and distributed for free, Coreia is an independent, experimental and internationalist forum focused on the discourse produced by works and artists through various formats such as scores, manifests, short stories, interviews, chronicles, essays, critiques and opinions.
Presented by its editor, João dos Santos Martins, the release of Coreia#5 was accompanied by the exhibition of the film Against Waves and the performance Ehera Noara by the South Korean artist Hwayeon Nam, performed by Ji-Hye Chung, who activates the archive of one of the precursors of Korean modern dance, Seung-hee Choi. Initially made in the context of a solo exhibition in Seoul, Nam’s Ehera Noara (2020) is based on the memoirs and records of Choi’s Ehera Noara (1933), from which the artist intervenes on the absence of time and movement between the static images that survive from the work.

Hwayeon Nam (b.1979) lives and works in Seoul. Along with her most recent exhibition Mind Stream(2020) at Art Sonje Center, Nam’s solo exhibitions include Abdominal Routes (Kunsthal Aarhus, 2019), Imjingawa (Audio Visual Pavilion, 2017) and Time Mechanics (Arko Art Center, 2015). Hwayeon Nam represented Korea at the 58th Venice Biennale’s Korean Pavilion with siren eun young jung and Jane Jin Kaisen in 2019. She has participated in group exhibitions Reenacting History (National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, 2017), All the World’s Future (56th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia, 2015), and Nouvelle Vague—Memorial Park (Palais de Tokyo, 2013). She also made several performance works including Orbital Studies(2018) at National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art – Seoul.
Ji Hye Chung collaborated with artists from various fields in Korea and Europe through choreography and performance. She is interested in the paradox that appears when conflicting concepts coexist within social and personal issues, and is interested in expanding the range of communication that can be communicated with the work, focusing on movement. In addition, she analyzes the reason for the action that the movement makes, and looks into the social waves generated by accumulation in the body. Recent choreography works include “Open Letter (2020), “Air Becomes Ears, Ears Become Eyes.” (2020), “Untitled (2018), and “All About Memory (2018). Some of the performances included “DDR (2020, Lyon Eun Kwon), “Body Landscape (2020, Jung-sun Kim x Jae-lee Kim), “Ehera Noara (2020, Hwa-yeon Nam), “Postcards from Vietnam (2020, Raimund Hoghe).”
